Frequently Asked Beauty Questions

Quick, expert-reviewed answers to the most-asked questions in beauty.

What order should I apply skincare products?
Apply skincare from thinnest to thickest texture. The standard order is: cleanser, toner, serum, eye cream, moisturizer, and sunscreen in the morning. At night, swap sunscreen for a heavier night cream or treatment. Always wait 30–60 seconds between layers to allow absorption. See our glossary for term definitions.
Do I really need sunscreen every day?
Yes. Daily broad-spectrum SPF 30+ is the single most effective anti-aging product available, and it prevents the majority of premature wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and skin cancer. UV radiation reaches your skin even on cloudy days and through windows.
How often should I use retinol?
Beginners should start with retinol 1–2 nights per week for the first 2–4 weeks, then gradually increase to every other night, and eventually nightly if tolerated. Always apply to dry skin, use a pea-sized amount, and follow with moisturizer.
What's the difference between gel, acrylic, and BIAB manicures?
Gel polish lasts 2–3 weeks. Acrylic is a hard sculpted overlay lasting 3–4 weeks. BIAB (Builder In A Bottle) is a soft gel used to strengthen natural nails and is considered the gentlest of the three. Read our full comparison.
How can I make my perfume last longer?
Apply fragrance to moisturized skin on pulse points (wrists, neck, behind ears, inner elbows) immediately after showering. Avoid rubbing your wrists together. Choose eau de parfum over eau de toilette concentration for longer wear.
Are drugstore skincare products as good as luxury brands?
Often yes. Skincare effectiveness depends on active ingredients and their concentrations, not price. Many drugstore brands use the same proven actives at clinically effective levels.

Should I apply sunscreen every day in India?
Yes, daily. India sits close to the equator, so UV index is high year-round — even in winter and on cloudy days. Use SPF 30+ broad-spectrum sunscreen and reapply every 2 hours when outdoors. Indian skin tones still develop hyperpigmentation, melasma, and sun damage from UV exposure.
How often should I oil my hair?
For most hair types, 1–2 times per week, applied 30–60 minutes before washing, is enough. Daily oiling can clog the scalp and trap dirt. Coconut, sesame, or argan oil work well for Indian hair textures. Massage gently into the scalp, leave for 30 minutes, then shampoo out.
Are Indian drugstore brands as good as international ones?
Often yes. Indian brands like Minimalist, The Derma Co, Plum, Dot & Key, and Mamaearth use clinically-proven actives at effective concentrations, often at a fraction of imported prices. The same niacinamide, retinol, vitamin C, and salicylic acid that work in Western brands work here too.
